Privacy Policy

Overview

Addiyon Keyboard is an Android input method for typing Amharic in the Ge'ez / Fidel script. This policy covers Addiyon Keyboard (com.addiyon.keyboard) published by Addiyon. It does not cover other apps you use the keyboard inside of, or the operating system itself. In short: Addiyon Keyboard never collects what you type. Transliteration and word suggestions run entirely on your device. Content-free usage analytics is on by default and can be turned off in Preferences, as described below.

What we do not collect

We do not collect, log, store, sell, or transmit:

  • the text you type, in any app, at any time;
  • your contacts, precise location, photos, files, clipboard, or email content;
  • suggestions, voice transcripts, target-app identity, field labels, or typing cadence;
  • advertising identifiers, advertising profiles, or custom account/user IDs;
  • any account information — the app has no sign-up, sign-in, or user account.

There is no Addiyon account or typing-data server.

Anonymous usage analytics

Product analytics is on by default and can be turned off at any time under Preferences → Share anonymous usage analytics. When on, Addiyon uses Google Analytics for Firebase to measure aggregate app opens, keyboard sessions, app version, general device information, and approximate city. Firebase assigns a pseudonymous identifier to an installation. Google derives approximate location from a network address and does not log the network address in Analytics.

Analytics events never contain typed text, suggestions, voice transcripts, target-app identity, field information, contacts, account identifiers, or advertising identifiers. Google Signals, advertising-identifier collection, and advertising personalization are disabled. Turning analytics off stops future collection and resets the Firebase Analytics installation data.

Google Analytics event-level and pseudonymous user data is configured for two months without extending that period when a user returns. Aggregated reports may remain after event-level data is deleted. Learn more about how Google uses information from apps that use its services.

Why typing is private by construction

Keyboard input, transliteration (turning "selam" into ሰላም), and word suggestions run entirely on your device against dictionary files bundled inside the app. Those dictionaries are fixed at install time. They are not personalised to you, and nothing you type is added to them or sent anywhere.

No selling of data

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising or ad targeting. There are no third-party ad SDKs that track you across apps. Google Signals, advertising-identifier collection, and advertising personalization are disabled.

Permissions

As a keyboard (input method), the app runs within Android's secure IME framework. In plain language:

  • Internet (INTERNET): sends the content-free usage events described above to Google Analytics unless you turn analytics off. It is never used to send typed text.
  • Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO): used only for the optional voice typing feature, and only while you are actively dictating. Android asks for your explicit consent before this is ever granted, and the keyboard works fully without it. See the next section.
  • Vibrate (VIBRATE): used for haptic feedback on keypress, which you can turn off in the app's settings. It involves no data of any kind.

Voice typing

Voice typing is optional, off by default, and only runs while you hold or activate the microphone key. When you use it, Addiyon Keyboard does not process your audio itself. It passes the request to the speech-recognition service that is installed and selected on your device — on most phones this is Google's speech recognition, though the manufacturer may provide a different one.

That service may send your audio off your device for processing. Whether it does, what it retains, and for how long is determined by that provider, not by Addiyon. Once we hand the request over, the audio is governed by the privacy policy of the speech-recognition provider on your device — for Google, its Privacy Policy.

Addiyon Keyboard never receives, stores, or transmits a recording. It receives only the recognized text, which is inserted into whatever field you are typing in. If you prefer that no audio leave your device, simply do not use the microphone key, or deny the microphone permission entirely — every other feature keeps working.

What is stored on your device

The app saves your preferences locally, in Android's standard private app storage. This includes: your keyboard language, theme, keyboard height, number-row setting, sound, vibration, and analytics settings, recently used emoji and skin-tone choices, and a simple counter used to decide when to ask you for a Play Store review.

These preferences stay in the app's private storage and are deleted when you uninstall the app.

Android Backup

If you have Android's built-in backup enabled, Android may include eligible preferences in the backup it makes to your own Google account, so your settings are restored when you set up a new phone. This backup is performed by Android, stored in your Google account, and governed by Google's privacy policy. It contains your settings and recent emoji only. It does not contain typed text, because we never store any. You can disable this in your device's system backup settings.

The app can open a few external destinations at your request: the Google Play listing (when you choose to rate or share the app) and Telegram or your email app (when you choose to send feedback). The app also uses Google Play's in-app review feature, provided by the Play Store app on your device. Choosing any of these hands you off to that app, under its own privacy policy. None of them are contacted unless you tap them.

Children

Addiyon Keyboard is a general-purpose typing tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect typed content from children or anyone else.

Your choices and rights

Analytics is on by default, and you can turn it off at any time without disabling keyboard features. Because what you type is never collected, there is nothing typed for us to export or delete. You can also deny microphone access, clear the app's local data, disable Android backup, or uninstall the app. Where applicable, you may ask about data associated with the app, object to or restrict processing, withdraw consent, or complain to your local data-protection authority.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new "last updated" date. Material changes to how the app handles data will also be described in the release notes of the version that introduces them.
